Prevention, diagnosis and management of respiratory infections/exacerbations
Respiratory viral and bacterial infections are a major cause of morbidity in otherwise healthy individuals and those with chronic lung diseases such as COPD. Following the easing of pandemic restrictions, we have observed a surge in lower respiratory infections and virus-induced exacerbations, placing a major burden on primary and secondary care. Patients are presenting with more severe, persistent symptoms with a proportion also developing post-viral syndromes/Long COVID. Effective prevention and accurate diagnosis/management of these episodes is therefore a key priority.
Synopsis
Focusing on prevention approaches in COPD (including inhaled and non-inhaled advanced therapies, use of eosinophil biomarkers etc), approaches to distinguishing viral from bacterial infections (with associated implications for antibiotic stewardship) and an update on current understanding and approaches to managing long COVID syndromes.
Learning objectives:
- Options for exacerbation prevention in COPD and what we can additionally consider/offer in secondary care.
- Strategies for distinguishing viral and bacterial infections and optimum treatment approaches.
- Diagnosis and management of Post-COVID/Long-COVID syndromes.
This webinar will be of interest to GPs and any healthcare practitioners managing lung health in a primary care setting.
A CPD certificate of attendance will be supplied to all attendees.
