This Grand Round will be present by Prof. Paul Kalra, a consultant cardiologist and heart failure specialist at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, UK.
He graduated from Cambridge University. He is committed to driving up standards of heart failure care with major contribution to the development of national guidance and other work streams. Locally he led the development of an integrated heart failure service spanning primary and secondary care and co-led the introduction and development of a complex device service. Paul served on the British Society for Heart Failure Board from 2009 until 2019 (Chair 2017-2019). During his role as Chair, he was instrumental in raising the awareness of heart failure, culminating in getting heart failure recognized as a national priority and incorporated into the National Health Service (NHS) Long Term Plan. He also led the British Society for Heart Failure through a major restructuring, modernisation, and re-branding process. He helped shape and restructure the British Society for Heart Failure research committee to prioritise heart failure research within the professional community.
