Dr Gabrielle Liu will present this talk. She is an Instructor of Medicine at Northwestern University in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Liu’s research focus is in respiratory epidemiology. She aims to use large-scale cohort studies to understand transitions from respiratory health to chronic lung disease. She is specifically interested in using imaging to identify the earliest stages of respiratory impairment. She recently published a study in the Annals of Internal Medicine entitled “Comparing Racial Differences in Emphysema Prevalence Among Adults with Normal Spirometry: A Secondary Data Analysis of the CARDIA Lung Study” which examines how reliance on spirometry alone to differentiate lung health from lung disease may exacerbate racial disparities in respiratory health.
