Professor Suveer Singh

Professor Suveer Singh is a consultant in respiratory and critical care medicine at Royal Brompton Hospital and Professor of Practice in Respiratory and Intensive Care Medicine at Imperial College London.

Professor Singh qualified from Guy’s and St Thomas Hospitals Medical School, with postgraduate training at Guy’s, King’s College, Royal Brompton, Chelsea and Westminster and Charing Cross Hospitals, London. He is a research and educationally active academic Clinician with a wide range of clinical expertise.

Between 1996 and 2002, his PhD into mechanisms of microvascular dysfunction in sepsis at the National Heart and Lung Institute, London and further subspecialty training (sleep medicine, ventilation, interstitial lung disease, and advanced bronchoscopy) in Respiratory medicine were at the Royal Brompton Hospital.

Professor Singh is a leading Respiratory Sleep Disorders expert with 20 years of experience in respiratory medicine sleep and intensive care and has expertise in:

• General respiratory disorders
• Sleep Medicine
• severe acute respiratory failure COVID and non-COVID follow up service
• ECMO
• ventilation
• acute respiratory infections.

His clinical and research interests include:

• early diagnostic markers for ventilator-associated pneumonia and Burns inhalation injury
• bronchoscopy (EBUS and interventional)
• antibiotic stewardship
• respiratory infection
• post Intensive care disorders
• asthma
• sleep apnoea
• pulmonary infection
• COPD
• interventional pulmonology.

He is also the clinical lead for Sleep Medicine at Chelsea and Westminster hospital, and the service lead for the nationally commissioned ARDS-ECMO service follow up clinic at Royal Brompton Hospital and he is also part of the Platinum awarded national Severe Acute Respiratory failure (SARF) service. Professor Singh also practises advanced bronchoscopic procedures and runs the BRIC (Bronchoscopy in intensive care/acute care courses).

Professor Singh is an active clinical researcher with an interest in early diagnostic markers in pulmonary infection and sepsis (Inhale, Inhale-covid), weaning from ECMO, ARDS follow up and bronchoscopic lung volume reduction studies. He is leading an Imperial team looking at Behavioural aspects of Antibiotic decision making, and point of care testing in ITU, and part of national/international research conglomerates

Professor Singh is well-published (>105 peer-reviewed papers), and an active researcher in such areas as Early diagnostic markers of infection, COVID follow up outcomes, bronchoscopic interventions.

In addition, he is the Lead editor of the Oxford Textbook of Respiratory Critical Care Medicine.

Professor Singh is a prominent Clinical Teacher (Imperial NHS Teacher’s award 2013 and Distinguished Teacher nominee 2014, 17, 18), lead for Year 5 Critical Care Medicine, co-opted School board member (2016-17), examiner for the Royal College of Physicians MRCP and European Society and Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine EDIC, and international Fellowship programmes.  He has been a tutor for the Intensive care Faculty FICM. He frequently lectures nationally and internationally. He examines internal and externally for MD and PhD awards.

In addition, he is Course Lead for Undergraduate Critical Care at Imperial College London. He was awarded a Fellowship of the Higher Education Authority (FHEA) in 2021.
