Consultant cardiologist
Specialises in interventional cardiology and cardiovascular risk assessment.
Biography

Dr Jonathan Hill is a consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals.  

Dr Hill received his qualifications in 1992 from Edinburgh University Medical school, he then went on to complete his pre-clinical training at Cambridge University. 

Following this, he trained in cardiology at St Bartholomew’s and The London Chest Hospitals. 

His work during this time led to him being awarded the first National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute Bench to Bedside award in 1999. He then trained in basic science and interventional research within the National Institute of Health’s Cardiovascular Branch in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. 

His training in interventional cardiology was completed upon his return to London at The London Chest Hospital after which, he was as a Consultant Cardiologist at King’s College London from 2005, before joining our hospitals in 2019 

Clinical expertise

Dr Jonathan Hill has a special interest in acute myocardial infarction and new biological therapy, and his clinical expertise is in: 

  • cardiovascular risk assessment 
  • interventional cardiology 
  • cardiac CT. 
Research interests

Dr Jonathan Hill remains actively involved in research, most notably in stem and progenitor cells within cardiovascular disease.  

Publications

Throughout his career, Dr Hill has published numerous papers in well-respected journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Circulator, Circulation Research and Blood.  

Early in his career, his thesis work at the National Institute of Health-Related to the development of novel assays for measuring endothelial progenitor cells, the tracking of engraftment through the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and trafficking of stem and progenitor cells in acute myocardial infarction. 

Teaching

Dr Jonathan Hill academic and professional background led to him being appointed as the Clinical Senior Lecturer at King’s College London in 2005.
