CPDThis talk focuses on what GPs need to know about the management of long-term respiratory and cardiovascular complications of COVID–19.
The speakers will be focused on looking at past studies on coronaviruses in general and ongoing diagnoses and treatment responses to covid-19 patients they have treated at the trust as well as managing our ECMO and ICU capacity.
- To evaluate a patient after recent discharge from hospital following COVID-19 pneumonitis and provide a structured rehabilitation programme.
- To understand, investigate and treat the venous and arterial thromboembolic complications of COVID-19 infection.
- To investigate breathlessness in a patient after COVID-19 infection, including patients who never required hospitalisation.
- To understand the diagnosis and management of chronic cardiovascular complications of COVID-19.
Dr Alexander Lyon is a consultant cardiologist, heart failure team lead, and cardiovascular biomedical research unit lead at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals. Dr Lyon’s extensive academic achievements have won him numerous awards and his heavy involvement in research in his field is pivotal to leading new strategies for treatments.
Dr Peter George is a consultant respiratory physician and clinical lead for interstitial lung disease at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals. Dr George is heavily involved in teaching, research, and recruits patients for interstitial lung disease clinical trials and is also part of the specialist advisory group for the British Thoracic Society.
Dr Matthew Hind is a consultant respiratory physician, specialising in adult respiratory medicine and sleep disorders at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals. Dr Hind is on the lung failure team, is the lead for stem and regenerative therapy funded by National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), and has many publications.
