Dr Robert Smith Background
Dr Rob Smith is an interventional cardiologist at The Royal Brompton
and Harefield Hospitals. He is the lead for the experienced Structural
Heart Programme at these centres of excellence. He has led the mitral
and tricuspid valve services since 2014 and is one of the most
experienced transcatheter operators in the UK. He developed the mitral and tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) programmes and has personally performed more than 1,000 procedures in the past ten years. He has overseen the adoption of multiple novel devices and techniques and remains at the forefront
of therapy development and assessment. His team have been awarded prestigious ‘Centre of Excellence’ awards for mitral and tricuspid TEER. He oversees an active academic department involved in multiple industry and non-industry sponsored studies.
